'Indeed this fail brahmin must have a lot of good deeds!

To be honored by the lord Saroruhanabha, who is the repository of all praise-worthy virtues, is a wonder indeed!

 Meaning

Oh, dear friend, I had an unexpected meeting with the handsome Syam, when I went to fetch water from river Jamuna.  His head was adorned with the peacock feather; upon his lips was the flute from which a new melody was flowing.  One moment, He stands with the cow, and the next moment he goes away.

He converses with this cowherd friend in sweet nectarine words.  Oh lord, Padmanabha, who reclining on the serpent bestows His compassion on the three worlds.  Please bestow on me the ultimate happiness.

 Meaning

Oh, Aliveni-tresses having the hue of a black bee! Alas!  What shall I do now? Oh, Manini- the respectable lady!

Lotus-eyed Sri Padmanabha has not come yet!  What shall I do?

Oh, Komalangi- having a charming form! Tell me, what is the use of all these?  The humming of the bees, the gentle breeze, sandal paste, and the fragrant flowers like jasmine, etc., if my beloved does not turn up?

I do not know who is the blessed damsel on this earth, enjoying the company of Sarasaksha, the one who resembles Cupid!  I keep looking out for Him to come by the usual path.  I cannot see, as my eyes are brimming with tears.

Has my darling forgotten all the sweet words he uttered when we were together?  Oh, Kambukanthi-one with a neck like a conch!  Don't delay anymore.  Please tell Him my miserable state and bring HIm at once to me.

 Meaning

Oh, a maiden with dark tresses like the swarm of bees!  I am unable to recount the intensity of the onslaught of the Cupid,  the one with flowers for arrows!

The sun, who is the friend of lotus, has set in the ocean.  The gentle breeze which comes from the mountain makes me wilt.  Oh, dear companion! I am overwhelmed with desire in my heart.

Oh, my dear Kalamozhi-honeyed speech! Since the longingness is mounting in my heart, my body has become weary.  Even listening to the humming of the swarm of bees in the flower garden causes irritation in me.

Even the moon, which has risen now, has become red-hot embers to me.  The Cupid has become my foe, dear friend!  with a face like a moon!  Please, go to my beloved and tell him about my longing.  Oh, a friend with beautiful teeth!

My beloved Jalajaksha is gorgeous like the clouds and is most pure.  He is Abjanabha.  Has he no mercy on me?  Why this delay?  Is he angry with me?  Please fulfill my desires expeditiously.
